Hi,

After all these years I have just discovered that Command-Control-B and Command-Control-F open the button-tool and the field-tool

Am I the last to know this?

I'm a bit slow at times!

And to make it worse, I only discovered it because, I was using a real keyboard, and many years of laptop use have left me all thumbs.

Apparently not, I didn't know it either. And it works here too. Wonder
how you get the browse tool back via keyboard. I had some custom
keyboard shortucts I used instead for years but they don't work in
SheepShaver emulation. These do though.

I presume that was in OS 9? Before that, Command-Tab, Command-Tab-Tab and Command Tab-Tab-Tab used to work just fine. Of course those didn't work on OS 9 where Apple made Cmd-Tab switch applications (and therefore it never worked in SheepShaver).

You could always install 8 or even 7 in SheepShaver.

Right. OS X steals the keystrokes. Bummer. In fact, Apple has usurped
almost all the keyboard now and there is hardly anything left for apps
to use without doubling or tripling the number of modifier keys you have
to use.

I don't think it would matter. OS X intercepts the keystrokes before
they even reach the SheepShaver app. It's like Big Brother. It's everywhere.

There's an open source app for that:
http://www.ragingmenace.com/software/pulltab/index.html
This requires the free Application Enhancer from Unsanity. It runs fine OMM, 10.6.7. I miss some things from OS <X so I use their FruitMenu and Windowshade too (both updated for Snow).

Daft as this may seem; I have had Mac OS 9 running very nicely viaa
Sheep Shaver on Ubuntu Linux. No keystroke interference there that I can see.

Nothing a Mac person does turns out, on investigation, to be genuinely "daft", in my experience.
They tend to be people who know exactly that they want, and why they want it the way they do.

The word "particular" springs to mind, but others tend to think "pernickety".

I don't think so. SheepShaver requires a ROM-less MacOS, IIRC.

Even if I'm mis-remembering, OS X would grab the Cmd-Tab, Cmd-Space and other key combos away from SheepShaver.

From Wikipedia:

It is capable of running Mac OS 7.5.2 through 9.0.4 (though it needs the
image of an Old World ROM to run Mac OS 8.1 or below)

I distinctly remember OS 9 breaking some applications.

My earlier answer suggested http://www.ragingmenace.com/software/pulltab/index.html to take command of Command-Tab and variants. As for the all others, you can turn them off or reassign them in the Shortcuts pane of the Keyboard control panel. For example, Command-Space is needed in Pro Tools along with most of the function keys, and you get a warning dialog on a new install telling you what to do. I've turned everything off OMM except Command-` for window switching, Cmd-Ctrl-Shift-4 for defined-area screen capture to the clipboard, and Cmd-Opt-Ctrl-Shft F9 through F11 for Exposé. You double-click the keystroke to remap it.
