Depends how wide your labels are. I remember unlocking and moving "printer tractor" to adjust for the width of my labels. As for adequately aligning the text of the label, I did it empirically, e.g. trial & error. print 1-2, see what happens, adjust .... until it's just right! :)

Hi,
Pushing the printer tractor sounds strange to me.
As far as I can remember, it's up to the software to format and print
labels, not to to the printer. I used to print labels on an ImgWriter
from Hypercard (I'm sure) and from Word (I seem to remember). The
formatting had to be done in the application...

> I have been printing labels for Dyes and Dye Chemical containers for my business for many years. I have the labels set up in Nisus Writer Classic. I print on pin feed labels on a dot-matrix printer. Recently the head on the dot matrix printer I have been using has decided to catch on the labels.. If I open the print head spacing so that it doesn't catch, the labels print so faintly that they cannot be read. So I dug out an old Imagewriter II.. It still works, but I cannot print the labels because there is no Label size to choose. If I use the custom page size in the Nisus Writer page set-up dialog, I can only choose center or upper right. Unfortunately this centers the printing to the middle or right of the 8.5 inch paper size that I am modifying, completely missing the labels and for some reason the imagewriter is designed so that I cannot move the left tractor more than .5 inches to the right. Now I remember way back that there was a way to put a custom page size into the imagewriter printer extension. I even did it. But I cannot remember how or where I might still have the modified extension. I seem to remember that it had to do with a utility provided by the old Disktop desk accessory, and even though I still have that program I cannot find where that utility might be hiding. Since there are some people on this list that have been using Macs since at least the imagewriter and desk accessory days, I ask if anyone remembers how to print pin feed 4 x 1 inch labels on an imagewriter.

Problem solved. Program I was looking for is called Widgets and I found it on my floppy copy of Disktop 4, although, since it wasn't on the original disk, I must have copied the program from a previous version original.

I have been printing labels for Dyes and Dye Chemical containers for my business for many years. I have the labels set up in Nisus Writer Classic. I print on pin feed labels on a dot-matrix printer. Recently the head on the dot matrix printer I have been using has decided to catch on the labels. If I open the print head spacing so that it doesn't catch, the labels print so faintly that they cannot be read. So I dug out an old Imagewriter II.
