[HC] PowerMac starts up on its own

Sorry, this may be kinda off-topic, but I thought one of you might remember something...

I have a PowerMac 7200/90 sitting in a room that I occasionally use with an old scanner, and to run other old software on. A while ago it began starting up on its own. When I shut it down, it stays off about half an hour or so (guesstimate), then starts up on its own.

I've checked Energy Saver prefs, and no wake-up times are set. Does anyone have an idea why it might be starting up on its own and how to fix that?

Cheers,

Hi Uli,

I have a G3 that turns itself on. It's because the on/off switch sticks AND because of vibration (of the table, because a door slams, because a BIG truck drives by ... Great if you need a seismographic alert system, but kind of a nuisance. Un-pluggging it is the best, most radical step. If it still starts then, then ya got another kind of problem (Twilight-Zone music playing). ;-)

Regards and Happy Holidays,

Alain

Yeah. Luckily the power strip it's on has an off switch, but I don't think it's the power switch. Might try to buy a new battery, maybe it's the internal clock and PRAM losing power :-/

You might check out some of the sites devoted to older Macs with forums
where folks can do troubleshooting. I think lowendmac.com has links to some of
them.

Is there an Ethernet cable plugged in? If so, try disabling "wake for network access" in Energy Saver.

Hey Uli,

IIRC the 7200 has soft power on via the ADB keyboard. I'd check the cable and keyboard before suspecting the computer itself.
