OK. My daughter just asked if she should send $25 to Rand Miller. My immediate response was "if you want to wait 15 years until you are married and have children in school, then go for it". But then I decided to crowd source it with the experts because she accused me of not knowing what I was talking about.

So experts, what do you think?

I really like the Kickstarter concept. The Myst guys have enough
of a track record to risk $25.

But you didn't say how old your daughter is, or if she wants to
send her own money, or yours!

If she's got $25 of her own, let her go for it -- great life
experience. Their project goes well, she get's what looks to be
an interesting piece of software. Project goes poorly, and she
gets a very good education in discernment and critical thinking!

My two yen.

I'm 75 and sent off $45.00

Myst was a very good game. No violence and you had to use your brain. I'm all for encouraging that.

Kat.

Hi.

I have found that it is always better to get new kids than to try to fathom the peculiarities of the ones you already have.

I did already back Obduction, at $120 (limited edition tee shirt, poster, name in credits, physical box product). Its the furthest out of any Kicks
tarter thing Ive done, with it not due to ship for two years. That is qu
ite a bit like lending them money for a long period of time, but in the endit will be good value.

Wow. I will tell her to send it. It is her own money but she's already costso much of mine that there's no point in further life lessons : )

Ive helped kickstart several adventures. I never pay more than I would p
ay for the game at the store, though. But being a software developer (so knowing how hard it is to make software) and having bought games in the pre-app-store days, my pain threshold is probably higher than that of most younger people today.

FWIW, Ive pledged the equivalent of 75, which is about what I paid fo
r Escape from Monkey Island or Myst V: End of Ages back when they were new.Thats for the boxed edition, too. I probably wouldnt go quite as hig
h if it wasnt the people who did my beloved Myst.

IMHO it depends on what its worth to you. There are few enough adventure
games out there in the Myst or LucasArts style out there that I like to atleast order one when it comes up on Kickstarter, is available for Ma
c or iOS (which is where I can play them).

Cheers,
