[HC] Converting hypercard stacks to livecode

I am not on the livecode list; is there a utility that enables an easy conversion of hypercard stacks into any livecode format?

I could not find a windows version of metacard anywhere, otherwise i would use that to export the stack to a metacard 2.x format and import it to livecode. i obviously am not concerned about the resource fork, i would have to do that by hand anyway.

i have livecode 8.x it does not appear to allow import of hypercard stacks.

There is a known issue with all LiveCode versions from 7 upwards, where
they do not import HyperCard stacks. The simple solution to this is to
download LiveCode 6 (older LiveCode versions are available to download here
<http://downloads.livecode.com/livecode/>;), open the HyperCard stack in
LiveCode 6, save it as a LiveCode file, then open it in LiveCode 8.

It's a faff, the LiveCode team are aware of it, and hopefully it will be
fixed soon. For now, the method above works best.

Livecode 8 reads HyperCard stacks.

I hope you are right but I tried to get it to read my stacks and no joy. In contrast, stackplayer 2.x reads them just fine. When I try to read them using livecode 8 - it crashes. And stackplayer reads them just fine so I know they are not corrupted.
Still i will try again and again but i already know LC8 isn't reading them.

Hi Eric,

AFAIK the last LiveCode to import HyperCard stacks is version 6.7,
the "community" edition of which you can download from livecode.org

Thanks for that idea. OK I try that then. 8 just crashes. Stackrunner does open and read them just fine; idk if that can be hacked around to run metacard home or not. coz yeah ideally i would be developing them in mc rather than lc8 (I prefer the simpler ui)

You need to compact the stack before importing it into LiveCode.

AFAIK the option to import HC stacks disappeared from the open file dialogue but you still can open them.

Right, there's an open bug report about the issue that's been in the
database for some time. Andrew's method is the only way to do it currently.
I keep an old version of LC 6 around for that.

Thanks all, downloaded earlier version, stack opened just fine in it. :)
